  1. Hi , I'm so glad you reached out. Unfortunately, there can be withdrawal effects decreasing (or stopping) steroids. Typically doctors try to lessen the dose, as they seemed to do for you, to keep the side effects minimal, but that doesn't always mean people won't still experience symptoms. If you haven't already, I would encourage you to reach out to your doctor, just to check in and let them know how how you've been feeling and they can help determine whether or not your symptoms are due to cutting back your steroid dose and how long you can expect the symptoms to last. In the meantime, I hope some of our community members who've experienced decreasing their steroid dose can let you know about their experience here too. Please know our community is here for you! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. been at doc again yes all symptoms down to steroids im also getting panic attacks he has given me valium in case i need had to have valium before im out of it something meeting specialist mon 4th sept

    2. Hi . Mind if I ask if your doctor discussed slowing your taper off of the steroids to minimize the withdrawal effects? Each person and case is different, but, besides the withdrawal symptoms, tapering to fast can lead to flares in IBD patients. This page from the Mayo Clinic offers more information: https://www.mayoclinic.org/prednisone-withdrawal/expert-answers/faq-20057923. Wishing you the best and please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing. Richard (Team Member)

  2. i am tapering slowly on 20mg a day now for week 15 a day next week ect

    1. Hi . Glad to hear the taper is gradual. I have seen the effects if the taper is too fast or too much in various autoimmune conditions. Hope your IBD remains stable. Wishing you the best. Richard (Team Member)
