Symptomatic Crohn's

For the last few months, I have really been strugging with severe abdominal pain in the lower right quadrant (this is where I have previously had a resection) and debilitating fatigue. I have also been dealing with fissures, mucus in my stool and bouts of nausea. I am really struggling with eating. It feels almost exactly like it felt when I got diagnosed.

My GI had me do a calprotectin test and it came back completely normal. He then did a colonoscopy and found a few ulcers but doesn't believe that that is what is causing my symptoms. Has anyone been in a similar situation? What additional tests should I have him run? I am in survival mode and unsure of what my next steps should be.

  1. Hi . You definitely are not alone in running into a circumstance where a test comes up normal, but your symptoms say otherwise. Our contributor Kelly J. wrote about dealing with it here: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/when-test-results-are-normal. I can't say that it would provide you answers, but our contributor Amanda wrote here about a colonoscopy not doing the trick and getting better results with a pill cam: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/crohns-clean-colonoscopy. Your doctor should be able to provide additional guidance and, if not, as Kelly noted don't hesitate to seek another opinion. Hope you can get some answers and relief soon.
