Trying to get a diagnosis

Hi!😊 New to this page as I am currently undergoing tests to see whether or not my symptoms are crohns, colitis or something completely different! However because I am struggling whilst waiting for a diagnosis, I thought I'd look for some advice here as part of me believes it's got to be crohns🤔
Back in January I had a bad infection called Giardia (a gut parasite) was put on antibiotics (metronidazole) for 5 days. I was completely fine and all symptoms gone for 5 weeks. Symptoms then returned and the doctor suspected it had come back so again more antibiotics. However this time once completing them, symptoms stated and have stayed for 2 months now. First I was told my gut had dealt with alot since January so to just let it heal, then was told I could now be lactose intolerant so to cut dairy (which I have done for 2 and a half weeks but no difference in symptoms). Then my doctor said its best to check for IBD because he believes my gut has been damaged badly by 2 infections and 2 rounds of antibiotics. So I'm waiting on results for that. My symptoms are urgent diarrhea for the past 2 months, bad stomach pain, nausea 24/7, really bad fatigue and no appetite at all, even hurts my stomach to eat sometimes. Do you think this could be Crohns or colitis or do you think im dealing with something else?
All advice is welcome😊

  1. Sorry you're going through all this but it sounds very familiar to me. In my opinion, it sounds like Crohn's but as you said, it could be a variety of gut problems. Has your doctor done any testing? Like fecal calprotectin or even a colonoscopy? If not, maybe request it.
Let us know how you get on.

    1. My calprotectin results came back at 150 so I've got a face to face appointment Wednesday to discuss

    2. 150 is high but talking with the doctor should shed more light on it, maybe a colonoscopy. Hopefully the doctor will have more answers for you.

  2. Thank you so much, its so nice having somebody to speak to whilst im still in the dark!
Just a couple more questions if you don't mind?
2 weeks ago I believe I had an anal fissure due to how often I was going to the bathroom. It was extremely painful to go and would throb, sting and feel so dull for days. I took imodium to stop me going and to help it heal which did the job. However as of last night I've definitely got another one. I don't want to take anymore imodium as haven't for 2 weeks. Is there a cream you can recommend?
