Ulcerative colitis

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis back in early April. I have been on mesalamine for approximately 7 weeks. Been on steroids as well. How long before they will try something else. This is not working for me 😞

  1. Sorry to hear it is not working for you. I took several meds and different combination of meds for years before discovering what combination worked for me, though I have Crohns and not UC. After seven weeks you should have seen some sort of change but if not then maybe talk to your doctor to try something else. They might want to do come tests prior because even though you might see or feel a difference, there might be changes going on in your gut.
Let us know how you get on

    1. Hi . Your frustration is certainly understandable. Yes, most people notice some improvement from mesalamine in one to three weeks. There are now quite a few treatments for UC and I want to share with you this article from our editorial team providing an overview of the meds, which may aid in discussions with your doctor: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/treatment/medications. Don't hesitate to advocate for yourself - no one knows your body like you. Hoping you can get some answers and relief soon. Please feel free, if you like, to keep us posted on how things are going. 1. Hi, sorry to hear your meds are not currently working. I can only speak from my experience as I was only diagnosed in February but I was in a flare up at the time and was prescribed steroids, omeprazole and salofalk suppositories for an 8 week course. Within 1 week I was in remission and had almost no symptoms. I think they should work pretty fast so I would suggest speaking to your nurse about a different prescription?

        1.
