Ulcerative colitis therapy

I just wonder do you know anyone who is using 5-asa for treating UC, for whole life, as only therapy.
I am just so depressed when i read how severe effects can have other medicines.
Can your disease be so mild that 5 -asa is everything you need.

  1. , thank you for reaching out. Aminosalicylates can be especially effective in treating ulcerative colitis. 5-aminosalicylic acid, which is called “5-ASA” for short, can help to reduce inflammation in the digestive tract by working directly on the lining of the bowel of the digestive tract. I'm including an article here that can provide more information on 5-ASA: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/treatment/medications/aminosalicylates I hope some community members will chime in with their experiences. In the meantime, if you haven't already, be sure to discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor as well. Keep us updated on how you're doing! Sending well wishes, Pam (team member)

    1. IBD is different for everyone. The symptoms we experience, our triggers, disease progression, and what treatments help differ from person to person.
I can confirm that I know people in the community that have stayed on just 5ASA meds for many years.
Also, many people who have had to try different treatments have been able to do so with no life limiting side effects.
