Update

Hi,

Hope everyone is well!!

Just a quick update from me…..

So I went to my GP today to show them my test results from the blood and stool tests that were took by private health care.

The GP took a quick look at them and done an examination of my stomach by feeling it. I’m having a bad flare up at the minute with extreme pain in my lower tummy, a long with nausea and loss of appetite so the examination wasn’t pleasant. 🙈

She said she’s going to discuss my case with other GP’s that work at the surgery but has sent me for more blood tests first to see what my CRP levels are like. Am I right in thinking this is a test normally used to help diagnose IBD??

I was also wondering if anyone has any home remedies or knows of any medication that I can buy in the shops to help with the pains?? My GP can’t prescribe anything yet due to not having a diagnose and the pains are ridiculous!

Thanks,
Danielle

  1. Hi Danielle, thanks so much for keeping us updated on what is going on with you. Sorry to hear you've been having all these symptoms. It does sound like they are thinking about IBD since they are doing a CRP test. That being said, we can't know for sure yet. Have they said anything about doing a colonoscopy on you? In the meantime, I would recommend skipping NSAIDs for pain. I also like to do warm baths and heating pads. Hope you see some relief soon, please do keep us updated! -Eshani (IBD Team Member)

    1. Hi, no worries!

Ahhh right okay but yeah I know what you mean. No, not yet as I think they want to do blood tests first but I had one last year that came back normal. That’s what’s confusing me as the stool tests shown that Calprotectin was present. Is it possible for that to happen with IBD?? Like a normal colonoscopy by inflammatory bio markers being present??

Amazing, thank you so much! I need to try and do something to help with the pain.

      Thank you and will do!

      Danielle ☺️

      1. Thank you for the update, @danieller94. Having blood tests to check CRP levels is pretty common, and the inflammatory markers that can be detected may be from other sources that are not necessarily IBD.

I'm sorry you cannot receive any prescriptions from your GI yet, and it is difficult to treat symptoms for something you have not yet confirmed. What are you currently taking for the pain?

Ahhh right okay, that makes sense. I still get the symptoms despite cutting these foods out of my diet, which makes make think theirs still something to else going out but I’ll just have to wait until I get my appt at the gastro department.

          Thank you!
          Danielle ☺️

        2. keep us updated! I hope you get your appointment through soon. You've done a lot of waiting already! I'm glad to hear that you saw a doctor you felt actually listened to your properly this time!
