What are some ways you relieve your boredom while relieving yourself?

Let’s face it, living with IBD means we’ve all become a little too familiar with the porcelain throne. But hey, why not make the most of it?
Do you play a round of "toilet Tetris" on your phone? Maybe you dive into a good book or binge-watch a show. Perhaps you’re crafting the next great novel in your head.
Whatever your bathroom boredom busters are, we want to hear them! Share your best tips for making those loo breaks a little less monotonous.

  1. I keep a book near my toilet so I always have one to read during my interlude with a flareup.

    1. love that! Having something to read while dealing with a flare up is such a smart idea. Do you have a favorite type of book to have on hand? -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    2. This is a much better alternative to zombie scrolling on the phone. I do have a book near my toilet, but I am always reaching for my phone instead. Need to work on this! -Elizabeth (team member)

  2. If I can concentrate, I read scary stories or do crossword puzzles.

    1. Hi . Ahhh! So, do the scary stories take your mind off of the scary story that can be IBD? Best, Richard (Team Member)

    2. I can relate when you say: "if I can concentrate." Sometimes, you just need to focus because the pain can be so intense and you need everything you've got to get through it. -Elizabeth (team member)

  3. For me, my traditional go-to while "going" is playing crossword puzzles on my phone. I only select ones rated "Hard" so I need to concentrate, check the dictionary, etc. I also run my hairdryer on low heat to help with the chills AND help drown out the THUNDERMUG while destroying the biffy.

    1. Since I've had IBD (Crohn's) my entire adult, I've worn out DOZEN'S of hairdryers. And yes, I thought I was the only one, too! I began turning it on as a "cover-up" noise maker but found that the horrible chills that often accompany flare-ups are really helped by the gentle stream of warm air. Of course, the dryer can be set to cool as well if all I need is a noise-canceller. My sweet and incredibly understanding wife knows, when the dryer is on, DON'T COME IN--so that's yet another benefit! 😉

    2. lol!! Well, you have someone else out there in the ether that does the hairdryer trick. It definitely helps keep you warm if you get the chills. I'm proud of my hair dryer, it's still going strong! Stay well, Elizabeth (team member)

  4. I might have to start taking my tackle box in for fishing... Could make a years worth of rigs in one sitting 😂

    1. lol! Not a bad idea! -Elizabeth (Team member)

    2. I hope you get some answers and solutions from your meeting with the surgeon. Please do keep us posted. I hope today is a better day symptom wise. Best, Elizabeth (team member)
