Has anyone tried the Cambridge Diet (or now known as the 1:1 diet)?

Hi everyone, I have been on steroids for almost a year to calm down my Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis and have gained a considerable amount of weight because of it. Has anybody tried the Cambridge diet? I’ve heard great things about it but not from anybody with IBD!!

Have a question? Ask it here!

  1. Hi Gracie,

I'm so sorry to hear that you've had some terrible side effects from steroids. They can truly do some interesting things to the body. I've never done the Cambridge diet. Everyone is so different how they react to food while living with IBD. Do you have Crohn's or ulcerative colitis? Do you have food triggers? Are gluten & dairy intolerant?

    1. Hi Brooke,

I have both Crohn's and ulcerative colitis. I am intolerant to some dairy such as milk and cream cheese (I think they contain more lactose than other dairy foods) and have a fair few food triggers. I would love to try the diet as at this point I think it is the only diet that might help lose all the weight I've gained through the steroids, I have spoken to one of their consultants who is speaking to the medical professionals from the company, so hopefully I might be able to do it.

  2. I have never heard of this diet. Have you asked your doctor if it would be something okay for IBD?

    1. Hi Elizabeth,

The diet is quite a drastic one! Through only drinking specific shakes and meals, it sends your body into a state of ketosis. I have asked one of the diet consultants from the company who are speaking to their medical professionals. Hopefully i'll be able to do it as I've heard nothing but good things about it!!

  3. Thank you for your question, Brooke!

I would definitely consult with a doctor before trying it. It seems like a fad diet that is not sustainable since it is mostly drinking and putting your body in ketosis which isn't for everyone. I would definitely look into it on your own (not just relying on someone from the company who promotes it) just to be on the safe side 😀 The last thing you want at this point is to take a step back!!

    1. Hi Julie

That's a good idea, I have looked into it and have decided not to give the diet a go as it may have an impact on my progress in getting well which is not something I want!!
