Does anybody else suffer from sulfur burps?

As well as IBS occasionally I also get really bad severe symptoms and sulfur burps! These burps smell like rotten eggs and the smell lingers in the air. They taste foul! My family hates me and they can last for 1-3 days.

Often I feel nauseous and occasionally I actually vomit too! Is this a side effect of IBS as my doctor has no ideas and me neither. A few years ago I found a temporary solution. My partner read online that another person in America used alka seltzer to relieve the symptoms which I never thought would work, but it reduces the burps and sometimes gets rid of that episode but they ultimately come back. I’m actually after a cure or even someone to know what I’m talking about. Anybody know???

  1. Hi ,

I am not sure if there is an actual cure, but I use OTC gas pills. As well as mint tea and capsules to help ease the gas.

    1. I may have the cure. I have had this problem off and on for a while now. I read that a small glass of water (8 oz) with a teaspoon of baking soda mixed in would make it stop. I was skeptical but it worked! Within a few minutes the sulphur burps stopped completely. If the first glass doesn't work, try another after 15 minutes. I have found even smaller doses to be effective. Let me know if this works for you!

      1. Occasionally I will suffer from it and my daughter. Sometimes it requires antibiotics like amoxicillin and also omeprazole I take that along with lemon ginger tea with honey. That usually does the trick it's important not to eat when you are stressed or upset I found this triggers it for me.

        1. You probably have an infection like h.pylori or giardia.

Get an antibiotic from your physician and it will most likely go away.

          1. , this is good advice as something to bring up with their doctor! 😀 Thanks for weighing in. - Pam (team member)
