IBD struggle

Hi everyone, I decided to back to work after 4 long years. I'm starting a new job on Monday any advised on how to deal with my IBD flares. I have had my husband buy me adult diapers and wipes to keep on hand. I tend to have accidents even at home. That is my fear for my new job. The embarrassment and shame that will come afterwards. During this last 4 years at home i have been skipping meals until I knew I'd be at home for the rest of the day. But working 8-5 is going to be tough. Any advice or tips greatly appreciated.

  1. Hi . Your concerns and apprehension about returning to work are understandable and you certainly are not alone with these worries and stress. I want to share with you this article from our editorial team that has information on working with IBD: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living-with-cd/school-work-ibd. I don't know what your new employee knows about your condition, but you may be able to get some accommodations that could help. Also, our contributor Holland wrote here about going back to work: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/back-to-work. Concerning accommodations, Paul wrote about a type of plan for working with a disability: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/time-504-plan. Hoping that others chime in with their thoughts and ideas. Wishing you the best. Richard (Team Member)
