Low down pain

Hi all, I've been having a flare up and most of the problem are coming from very low down - the anus region. Been prescribed Salofak suppositres along side tablets but feeling like they're not working. Struggling to keep clean and really starting to get me down. Any advice on other meds that may help?

  1. Hi . Your frustration is certainly understandable. Our contributor Vern wrote here about using Salofalk and prednisone, but switching to biologics: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/stories/living-crohns-35-years. Has anyone discussed anal fissures? This article from our editorial team gives an overview: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/symptoms/complications/anal-fissure. I'm not saying this is what you are dealing with (only a doctor can provide the diagnostics), but want to share the information because I know it can cause pain in the anus region. Hope this information is helpful and that you can get some relief soon. Best, Richard (Team Member)

    1. I struggle with anal stenosis, and have had chronic fissures for years. Trust me, you don't want them! I find using a bidet attachment on my toilet helps with the cleansing and soft toilet paper. Then vaseline. Try not to push at all. I've never been able to use suppositories as things are tight down there and the pain of trying to insert was unbearable. I am unable to pass anything rounder than my thumb!

      1. that sounds incredibly painful, and challenging. I'm glad that you've been able to find a few things that help. Thank you for sharing your experience and tips/ideas with . Wishing you a gentle day. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
