Swelling and Exhaustion with Chrons?

Hi - I am new to the diagnosis, I’ve come off of Budesonide 9mg about a month ago and started having all kinds of symptoms. I start Humira in a week - Most recently I’ve been having chest pains, ridiculous exhaustion, swelling in my feet and it feels like my eyes are puffy - I don’t feel like myself anymore - has anyone experienced this?

I recently just learned about this forum so if anyone has any advice on starting Humira or how to mentally cope with being overwhelmed with a chronic illness please let me know - it’s taken a year and multiple specialist visits to finally figure this out but I’m glad I finally have an answer.

Thank You

  1. Hi , I'm so glad that you've found and joined our community here. Getting a new diagnosis can bring with a lot of emotions, including being relieved to finally have some answers. But there is also that mental aspect of figuring things out while managing a chronic condition and navigating treatment options. I hope that our community here can share their experiences with Humira. It certainly can be overwhelming and nerve-racking to be starting a new medication (on top of a new diagnosis), and I can assure you that you are not alone. I also want to share a link to an article where our advocate, Jenna, wrote about her experience with Humira, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/humira-journey. As well as her tips for injections, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/7-tips-injecting-medication. I really do hope that you are able to get some relief. In the meantime, have you been able to reach out to your doctor about your current symptoms? It's always a good idea to check with your doctor if you're having new and/or worsening symptoms. It could be due to coming off the Budesonide, but it's always good to check, especially when there are chest pains and swelling. Please let us know how you're doing, and reach out here any time. Wishing you a gentle day. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
