Triggers

Hello! I’ve had ulcerative colitis for about 10 years and during those 10 years I’ve been trying to identify my triggers which cause flare ups. I’ve noticed that, without fail, anytime I cry I agitate my system. I wondered if anyone else has experienced this? I can’t find any information about emotional tears being linked to UC flares, so just wondering if it was unique to me. Thank you in advance!

  1. hey there, so far I didn't experience that, but when I have a fight it gets worse for me.

    1. I think physical triggers and symptoms are something that definitely gets more attention while potential emotional triggers and emotional health are a little less talked about. I'd definitely be curious to hear if anyone else experiences something similar! - Kelly, InflammatoryBowelDisease.net Team Member

      1. stress and lack of sleep greatly increases my symptoms. I was diagnosed with both Crohn’s and Colitis 20+ Years ago. So when I have a flare up it difficult to know which it is.

    2. any emotional changes really do effect me …..stress 😢. I find that by exercising daily it’s really helped me to get it out. Hope this helps.

      1. I think emotion, in general, is a stressor on the body, and stress is one of those things that many people have identified as a trigger for them.
