47 year old potential sufferer

I have been referred for urgent colonscopy . For years Ive had proctitis on and off. There are so many food I need to stay clear of or I get IBS symtoms and blood on bowel.
For last 3 weeks. Had a problem. Started with crunching in stomach, nausea , intestines felt v inflamed, blood in stool. Now lying flat is fine but moving around gives me very heavy fatigue. Bowel test positive for showing lot of blood.
Has anyone been diagnosed with IBD at this age and do these symptoms similar?

  1. Hi . You certainly have been dealing with a lot and your concerns are more than understandable. It is good that you are getting in quickly for the colonoscopy (too often we here of long waits for tests). I want to share with you this article from the editorial team on the diagnostic process: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/diagnosis. You will notice things like doing a biopsy as part of the colonoscopy to test for IBD. I hope this can help with discussions with the doctors on getting you a diagnosis, whatever that may be.
Also, I want to note that, while this article on the overall description of IBD states that it is most commonly diagnosed between 15 and 35, there are plenty of people diagnosed in the 40s and later: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/what-is-ibd. Hoping you can get some answers and relief soon and please feel free to keep us posted and to ask additional questions. Best, Richard (Team Member)
