Do I ask for second opinion?

I have today received my sons formal letter from his consultant which states
- patchy erythema in the rectum and sigmoid up to 20cm from the anal margin
- mild regenerative changes in the left colonic biopsies.
- 2.5 thickening and hyperaemia in the terminal ileum.

They told me biopsies all normal and no reason to believe it’s an IBD, I beg to differ as they have found something. He’s been referred to the gastro team for app in feb 2023, but I’m unhappy leaving him in pain with no treatment until then.

He’s suffering with severe stomach pains, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, loss of appetite and weight.
I’m unsure if anyone has any further advice or options? Thanks in advance.

  1. I would get a second opinion. Show the letter to another GI and be adamant about getting some sort of treatment for your son if he is in pain. I learned that sometimes you just have to be persistent in order to get things done in the medical community. I hope this helps some. Sending strength your way, Elizabeth (team member)

    1. I agree with I would get a second opinion. The fact it states "hyperaemia" is a sign of active disease/inflammation, as well as the 2.5 wall thickening, is the high end or normal. Something is up in my opinion.
