Need Tips on coping with flare ups

New here and have no idea where to start. I’ve been trying to relax and a heating pad is kind of helping but I have 1 year old twins and it’s hard to get time to myself!

What helps you when you get flare ups or not feeling your best??

  1. Hi . You mention being new here. Have you started a treatment plan? Concerning tips, I want to share with you this article from our patient leader Christal on her flare action plan: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/flare-action-plan and this one from Matt on what to eat during a flare: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/flare-foods. Another important thing is to get support and this article from Amanda offers tips on asking for it during a flare: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/flare-support. Hope this information is helpful and that others chime in with their thoughts. Please know that this community is here for you and people understand. Best, Richard (Team Member)

    1. thank you! I haven’t started treatment yet… I have a GI appt but it’s a month away?! That’s the earliest they could get me in. Is that normal to have an appt that far out?

    2. Hi . Unfortunately it is not that rare for it to take a while to get an appointment. You may want to see if the GI has a cancelation list you can get on to potential move your appointment up. Also, it is often useful to put together a list of questions ahead of time (it can be tough to think in the moment), such as about goals for a treatment plan. Being prepared can enable you to take charge of your care. Note: a new Forum post about questions for a first GI appointment might garner some good ideas. Best, Richard (Team Member)
