Hi . Flu-like symptoms is a relatively common side effect with Mesalamine, particularly in the early period of taking it. It is important to let your doctor know that you are having these symptoms. I also want to note that flu-like symptoms can also occur with autoimmune diseases in general. Increased diarrhea can also be a side effect of Mesalamine, pointing in that direction, but the doctor should be able to help determine the cause (we are not medical professionals and, for your safety, cannot provide medical advice or diagnostics).
