Stressed induced flare up?

My husband has Chrohn’s and a very stressful job. For a while now, he’ll randomly experience episodes of extreme fatigue, diarrhea, and nausea to the point where he will go almost an entire day or two without eating. The symptoms seem to mostly occur when the stress is really high and then a weekend comes and he’s able to come down from stress. I’m wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this or if it’s seemingly normal in people with Chrohn’s?

  1. Hi . First, let me say, as the husband of someone with a severe autoimmune condition, it is great that your husband has you advocating and seeking information on his behalf. Second, as a friend likes to say, stress doesn't do a body good. Our contributors have actually written a number of articles on the impact of stress on IBD, such as here https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/stress-ibd and here: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/managing-stress. Also, here is another from our editorial team on the connection with stress and some management tips: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living-with-cd/stress. Hope this information is helpful and please feel free to ask further questions. Wishing both you and your husband the best. Richard (Team Member)
