MRE

Hi. I am looking for some honest feedback on people’s experience having an MRE. I am concerned about several things, first and foremost, about if the drink made you sick and if so, how sick? I usually get CT scans, which I am fine with, though that drink also gives me diarrhea. Any feedback on your experiences with this test will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Hi . It is completely understandable that you have questions going into a magnetic resonance enterography. I can't personally speak to the procedure, but I want to share with you this article from Jennifer on preparing for her son's MRE: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/child-colonoscopy-prep. Of course, every person's experience is different. Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences. Wishing you the best. Richard (Team Member)

    1. THE drink was not bad.Sort of like a watered down lemonaide.I hadn't problem drinking it.I did not get diareah and felt fine. The older version of drink went right through me.Just be happy that you are getting this non invasive test with just a drink or 2.Things could be worse, you could be prepping for a coloniscopy!Good Lyck, you will be fine.

      1. , I know more than my doctors a lot of the time. One of my doctors said “well, I am not a Crohn’s expert” when he wasn’t sure about something I asked him to do and my response was, “no, but I AM a Crohn’s expert which is why you should pay attention to what I am telling you is going on right now”. He is now my former GI☺️

      2. good for you! I'm so glad that you spoke up to that doctor, AND he's no longer your GI. I certainly would expect a GI doctor to be more information about inflammatory bowel diseases AND listen to their patients who are experts with their own experiences and bodies. I hope that you can connect with your medical team about the MRE and the possibilities for an alternative scan/test. I'm crossing my fingers they can make some adjustments that are more agreeable with your body! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    2. It gives me diarrhea so get as close to bathroom as you can just in case. Otherwise, wasn't bad.

      1. We appreciate you commenting and sharing your experience, ! Was the MRE helpful in getting a diagnosis or gathering other information for you inflammatory bowel disease? -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    3. Yes,very helpful in my diagnosis of 2 fistulas.

      1. oh that's great! I'm so glad the MRE was worth it for you. How are you managing currently? -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
