Uc bleeding & hemmoroid

I am in a 3.5 month uc flare and also dealing with bleeding hemmoroids. I gasp at sight of blood I see in toilet when they both act up. I am wondering what I can do for the roids until uc is under control. Doc tells me he cant surgically do anything until uc is healed. Any iron tablets recommended, I am sulfur allergic with high cholesterol

  1. Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with such bad hemorrhoids, . I know you mention speaking with your doctor, but have you been in to see him? I'm just wondering if it's possible that you're experiencing something other than hemorrhoids? I only mention it because one of our health leaders wrote about mistaking anal fissures for hemorrhoids, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/healing-anal-fissures. It would probably be best to ask your doctor what they recommend for hemorrhoid relief, but I have heard of some people getting relief from hemorrhoids with preparation H, sitz baths, or tucks (witch hazel pads). Of course, what works for one person won't necessarily work for another, but one or more of these options might be worth looking into. As far as iron tablets go, I'm not personally familiar with types of iron. Does your doctor or pharmacist have a recommendation for iron that is safe given your allergies and other conditions? Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  2. Thank you so much for your support you know a couple years ago. I thought I had a fissure, and I had a specialist check it out ,and he couldn’t find anything that was of course 2 years ago. I had a sigmoidoscopy a week and a half ago and it was determined that I have mild inflammation of my proctocolitis and that I did have an inflamed hemorrhoid. I don’t know if that would detect the fissure, but I did see a proctologist years ago. what did others who had similar symptoms do? I was given a steroid/antibiotic neomycin a few years back. I’ve been using hydrocortisone ,and it works for like a day but as soon as I’m having a bowel movement or sitting for a while.bad again.

    1. Hi . I do know that a sigmoidoscopy should be able to spot anal fissures. Also, there are iron supplements like iron bisglycinate or ferrous gluconate that may be tolerable with your sulfur allergy and there are even brands that promote themselves as sulfur-free. That said, it is important to check with a doctor or pharmacist to make sure any particular item is o.k. Best, Richard (Team Member)
