Infliximab

Hi
I have been on Azathioprine and allopurinol for 5 years. I have been well then I had my Covid vaccine and have flared three times and on prednisolone which has reduced inflammation. I am now due to have Infliximab infusion. My concern is if I get side effects, ie nausea how long it will last? I take Azathioprine with allopurinol because just taking Azathioprine gave me nausea. In that situation, to stop the nausea I stopped taking a pill where as with the infusion it’s in my blood stream for several months. Is it right to conclude so will the side effects?
Thanks in advance for your advise.

  1. have you had your first infusion yet? I have seen people report a couple of side effects in the #IBDSuperHeroes FB group, but it's usually headaches or extreme tiredness which lasts for just a day or two. I did get very tired and achey on the day, and the day after.

    1. Hi , I wanted to share my experience with Infliximab. I just started taking it in September and so far have had two loading doses. I find that my side effects are usually sleepiness from the Benadryl but also a slight sore throat for a few days. It's not too severe though. However, if I have any scratchiness I make sure to mention it to the nurses because this could be a sign of an allergic reaction. Please let us know how your infusions go! -Eshani (Team Member)
