granulomatous type ulceration?

Hi,
I've just had my letter from the appointment with the consultant a couple of weeks ago. In it he mentions that the colonoscopy showed unusual ulceration which is granulomatous in type.
This is why I'm not on any treatment yet as he wants some more tests done on the biopsies and a MRI scan which won't be done for at least 4 weeks
Does anybody know what this means and what the potential diagnosis could be?
Thanks.

  1. When I googled granulomatous this is what came up: "Granulomatous inflammation is a histologic pattern of tissue reaction which appears following cell injury. Granulomatous inflammation is caused by a variety of conditions including infection, autoimmune, toxic, allergic, drug, and neoplastic conditions."

Here is another result: "A granuloma is a tiny cluster of white blood cells and other tissue that can be found in the lungs, head, skin or other parts of the body in some people. Granulomas are not cancerous. They form as a reaction to infections, inflammation, irritants or foreign objects."

    I hope this helps some?

    1. Hi . I can't speak to your particular diagnostics, but granulomatous colitis is sometimes used medically as a synonym for Crohn's disease (see: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/pdf/10.2214/ajr.130.5.817 particular the section where it describes "Granulomatous colitis, or Crohn’s disease of the coIon"). Don't hesitate to ask your doctor directly if they may be doing these further tests, such as the biopsy to try to confirm a Crohn's diagnosis. Please feel free to keep us posted on how things are going and to ask further questions. Best, Richard (Team Member)

      1. Thank you so much for everybody staying in touch. I feel so lonely...work has stopped being in touch.
For me the main thing is the bottom toilet pain...it is just so excruciating...why can't they help me with that somehow? I feel like I'm giving up in a way. So tired of it all.

MRI scan is 12 July but then how long to see the consultant after that. And no pain relief in between.....

        1. Hi . It is completely understandable that the waiting seems unbearable. I know some people have success with asking to be put on a cancellation waiting list. This could move your appointment up if an opening occurs. Please don't hesitate to ask your doctor for treatment options for your symptoms until a diagnosis can be completed. Unfortunately, too many people experience these delays. Know that this community is here for you. Best, Richard (Team Member)
