Proof that food went “right through me”

I read the material about gastrocolic reflex but that is not happening here. I had a colonoscopy in December. My first meal the day after was a salad with chicken breast. A half hour later I had to go to the bathroom and there was undigested lettuce. How is this possible if food doesn’t go through our systems that quickly?

I have frequently felt that my food was going through my intestinal tract at an extremely rapid speed. I do have dx PBC and I think undiagnosed alpha gal. I react very poorly to red meat 4-6 hours after heating it.

  1. Hi . I know that you are not alone in experiencing food going through you very quickly. I don't know if this is the article you read on gastrocolic reflex (https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/the-gastrocolic-reflex-food-goes-right-through-me), but if you look at the comments section there are a number of people who disagree with the hours long time line. I have seen some information on something called early dumping syndrome where food can leave the stomach into the intestines very quickly (they say around 10 to 30 minutes after eating). It is surprising how little information is available on "food going right through," since so many people with these conditions mention experiencing it.
I also noted that you mentioned having PBC and want to let you know that we have a brand new sister-site for primary biliary cholangitis at https://primarybiliarycholangitis.net/. Hope that new community may be helpful. Best, Richard (Team Member)
