Advice

I’m looking for some advice or to see if anyone else has experienced something similar. I’ve had Crohn’s for 15 years (managed on biologics, never had surgery), along with IBS and BAM.

Lately, I’ve been struggling with a deep, sharp, aching pain in my lower right side. Sometimes it just aches, but other times it is sharp enough to make me wince. The weirdest part is that whenever I try to ride my scooter, the vibrations and bumps turn that exact area into a severe, sharp "stitch-like" pulling pain, and I have to get off the scooter because of it.

On top of the pain, I can barely eat a full meal because of early fullness and nausea. I also go 2 to 6 days without using the toilet, and when I finally do go, it causes me pain. I have to put my feet up on a stool to help manage the nausea while trying to go.

Here is the frustrating part: my stool sample shows no active inflammation, my colonoscopy just showed mild inflammation and pseudopolyps, and my last MRI was normal. My IBD team keeps offering more stool tests and colonoscopies, but they aren't finding anything.
For context on my meds: I am on Amitriptyline to manage both my migraines and my IBS. I have Colesevelam for my BAM, but I don't take it very often. Because of the slow transit, I occasionally try Movicol when necessary if it goes longer than a week, but it causes me pain and makes me feel incredibly "icky" and bloated when I use it.

I feel like I'm going crazy and bothering my doctors, so any insight would be amazing. Its just upsetting as I don’t want something wrong with me but I know something hasn’t been right and with no answers after so long I just feel so lost.

Thanks!

  1. Hi . Your frustration is certainly understandable. The pain in the right side has been mentioned by quite a few in the community, such as here: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/forums/excruciating-abdominal-pain and here: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/forums/ibd-symptoms-1. In addition, bloating and constipation can also be symptoms. This article from our editorial team gives an overview of symptoms: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/symptoms.
Concerning the doctors, I want to note that you are not a bother to the doctors. Whether it is IBD or something else, you deserve answers. Also, if there is a roadblock, don't hesitate to seek another opinion. Really hoping you get some answers soon. Please don't hesitate to keep us posted and to ask additional questions.
